Claudio Calcagni arrived in London from Esperia, Italy, in 1963. He was looking for his future and believed he’d come to the right place.
He worked selling ice-cream on an ice cream van for 10 years and matured the idea that he was going to manufacture the ice-cream he wanted people to taste!

In 1972 Claudio opened DCP ICES in 271 Mitcham Lane, London SW16 6QB and invested the next 10 years in experimenting and growing his passion to offer his “best products” to his customers.
In the following years, the business was lead by a number of different managers but in 1995 Claudio decided that it was time to go back!

Claudio developed the business over the following 20+ years and – along the way – discovered that his grandson, Alessio Tintinago, had his same passion, making GELATO.
After a few years working in the Gelato business between London and Rome, Alessio took over the family business and has been leading it with the same dedication.
DCP Ices continues to be a family business, dedicated to delighting its customers by manufacturing the GELATO we want people to taste.

Artisan Freshly produced – Low air in the mix richer and texture

We make semi-artisan gelato in a traditional way. This kind of way of working requires many hours for the icecream to mature and most importantly our gelato has 20 – 30 % air we don’t churn air into it, as a result, we have a rich and denser taste also to ensure maximum freshness we produce smaller batches but more frequently.

Roughly speaking, quality gelato tends to contain less infused air, making for a richer full taste. Cheaper industrial ice creams, on the contrary, tend to go for more stabilisers and sometimes up to 150 % infused air, making for a more fluffy end-product.
